"HOW LONG CAN MEN THRIVE BETWEEN WALLS OF BRICK, WALKING ON ASPHALT PAVEMENTS, BREATHING THE FUMES OF COAL AND OF OIL, GROWING, WORKING, DYING, WITH HARDLY A THOUGHT OF WIND, AND SKY, AND FIELDS OF GRAIN, SEEING ONLY MACHINE-MADE BEAUTY, THE MINERAL-LIKE QUALITY OF LIFE?"
- CHARLES A. LINDBERGH
Coal. It’s the energy source that powered the industrial revolution, and it still remains the largest energy source used in the United States. Coal is also one of the dirtiest and most dangerous energy resources we use.
For over a century we have acted as if we own the planet instead of belong to it. We have chosen an extractive and polluting economic order that is skinning our earth alive. In doing so, we are putting toxins in our water; ruining our forests, endangering our oceans, and destabilizing our climate. In order to reverse this self-destructive course, we need to keep the carbon in the ground.
